The Humble Zucchini

Zucchini also known as courgette is a popular cultivated summer squash, it is considered as a vegetable and has been used for various recipes. It's been grown in the US and some part of Italy. It is also popular in Australia and Germany, the word zucchini is an Italian word which means plant. Zucchini usually grow to enormous sizes, it's length can grow up to at least a meter and sometimes lesser. But the good thing about zucchini is that it brings a number of nutritional benefits that is good for human's health.

Zucchini usually has light or dark green and yellow color. It has a shape that is similar to ridged cucumber. Round varieties of zucchini is also available but is seldom seen in the market. Although zucchini is considered as a vegetable it is also presented as a botanical fruit. Zucchini are picked immature, and with the size of at least 8 inches. Unlike any other types of squash, Zucchini is usually served cooked. It is prepared using different cooking techniques like grilled zucchini, boiled, stuffed, baked and fried. It has delicate flavor that complements with other ingredients and incorporate with other recipes.



In 2005, Zucchini is revealed as the 10th most favorite culinary vegetable in Great Britain. In Mexico it is often cooked as soups. While in France, it is the key ingredients to the popular dish called ratatouille. It is a traditional stewed vegetable dish that is usually served as a meal. It is also best if served with bread or steamed rice.
